Design Trends 2020

Colours, textures, shapes and forms are part of the elements we seek to create an intended atmosphere. Research starts way ahead of time to determine what is coming next. Although we tend to see repeated themes such as the grey- neutral tones; such trends are taking a backseat as we are shifting the palette for the 2020 decade.

Colour

Over the years we have repeatedly seen the grey and white with marble and wood finishes. This year although the soft tones are still trending, we are seeing a shift in the comforting hues that shaped our spaces for almost a full decade. We are saying goodbye to our grey and white themed spaces as we are now allowing space for brighter, warmer, and bolder tones.

Cold tones are now being replaced with warm sets of beige, referred to as “Oatmeal” and “Champagne” for brighter accents. The mixes of pastel tones are interestingly intertwining light pink hues with mint and olive green accents. As we ascend to bolder tints on our colour wheel, we see grey being used in the warmer and bolder tone of charcoal. Additionally, Pantone’s colour of the year 2019 of “Living Coral” is shifting to a “Classic blue” hue that encourages harmony, stability and safety. Yes, colours exude psychological sensations; as such we will be seeing tones of Dark Red, the colour of passion that can make any space feel lively and energetic. Complementary tones that are making their mark in 2020 are mango; a bold tone that adds a lively harmony of warmth to a space. Although it may sound enough. our 2020 colour palette includes the cheerful like the sun, golden yellow to brighten up our living spaces.

Texture

Metals and finishes have seen a dramatic shift from our conventional uses of chrome, nickel and brushed metals. Hardware choices are revving up our interior design choices, becoming a more sought-out accent option. Brushed gold, rose gold, black matt, mixes of black and gold, copper are amongst the variety of metal finishes to make use for any intended atmosphere. Organic textured walls with washed out paint looks bring a natural texture and mix well with organic features of wood and metals.

Shapes and forms

The trendy modern interiors have a distinct use of squared edges and forms defining its appearance. As wellness is taking its mark in the design world, use of rounded shaped furniture and finishes are part of the trends for this decade. Rounded forms are a perfect additive for energy to flow in the space, creating a sense of fluidity and comfort.

There you have it, 2020 designs are all part of the wellness movement, organic shapes and forms with bright energetic colours and earthly textures  to enhance your liveable sanctuary!
